The Geri-Freki Glacier sits high in the remote Valhallas Range of Olympic National Park. In Norse Mythology, Geri and Freki were two pet wolves belonging to Odin. He was fond of them and would often feed them table scraps, so they sat perched at his feet waiting for food. Similarly, this glacier sits perched at the feet of Woden Peak (another spelling of Odin) and waits for the winter storms to feed it. Melt-water from Geri-Freki makes its way into the Hoh River, bringing life to Downstream ecosystems and small human communities.

This piece was created in partnership with Olympic National Park as a part of their Terminus Arts Project which seeks to honor the many glaciers found in the park. It took over 230 hours of hand embroidering to complete during a three month period of time. This piece will be on display from July 7th, 2023 through September 3rd, 2023 at the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center in Port Angeles, Washington.
